Glencoe Explorer I Satellite Model Kit

1:6 scale. On Jan 31st, 1958 the US Army launched Explorer I, the first successful US Earth satellite. It roared skyward from Cape Canaveral on an Army Jupiter C rocket. The Explorer I carried high and low powered tranmitters. A looping orbit allowed some of these instruments to first measure the bands of intense radiation surroundiing the Earth now known as the Van Allen Radiation Belts.
